Manchester City had a phenomenal season, winning the Premier League title for the third consecutive time. In fact, they didn’t even have to play their last match because Arsenal lost to Nottingham Forest, confirming Manchester City’s victory.
FA Cup Champions
In the 2023 FA Cup final held at Wembley Stadium in London, Manchester City faced off against their rivals, Manchester United. The match ended with Manchester City securing a 2-1 victory and lifting the FA Cup as champions. Ilkay Gundogan was named the Man of the Match after scoring the fastest goal in FA Cup history, just 12 seconds into the game.
Champions League Winners
Manchester City’s success didn’t stop with the Premier League and FA Cup. They also emerged as the champions of the UEFA Champions League. In the final held at Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey, Manchester City faced Inter Milan. They defeated Inter 1-0 and raised the Champions League trophy as winners. This victory made history as Manchester City became the first English men’s team to win the domestic treble and their first ever UEFA Champions League title.
Erling Haaland and Pep Guardiola
One of the standout players of the season for Manchester City was Erling Haaland. He set a new record for the most goals scored in a single Premier League season, netting 36 goals in just 35 games. Haaland is even considered a possible Ballon D’Or finalist and currently ranks first overall to win the England Premier player of the year award. However, Haaland credits his success to his team and coach.
Speaking of the coach, Pep Guardiola, he is currently managing Manchester City and is widely regarded as one of the best managers of all time. Guardiola’s achievements include winning the continental treble (Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League) twice and being the youngest manager to win the UEFA Champions League.
