Wednesday marks the final four-game playoff day of the 2025 MLB season, with all eight remaining teams taking the field as the Division Series races toward a dramatic conclusion. While the Milwaukee Brewers, Toronto Blue Jays, and Los Angeles Dodgers all have a chance to advance to the Championship Series with victories, the day began with a stunning comeback.
The Detroit Tigers, facing elimination at home, stormed back to force a decisive Game 5 against the Seattle Mariners with an explosive 9-3 victory.
For the first four innings, the Tigers’ season appeared to be over. Seattle built a 3-0 lead, silencing the Detroit crowd and moving closer to clinching the series. Everything changed in the fifth inning. The Tigers chased Mariners starter Bryce Miller and plated three runs on four hits, including an RBI double by Dillon Dingler, to tie the game at 3-3 and reignite the stadium.
Detroit seized the momentum in the sixth. Riley Greene launched a leadoff home run to give the Tigers their first lead since Game 1. After an RBI single from Zach McKinstry, Javy Báez blew the game open with a two-run homer, extending the lead to 7-3. The Mariners’ offense was shut down by Detroit’s bullpen for the remainder of the game.
With the series now tied 2-2, the teams will head back to Seattle for a winner-take-all Game 5 on Friday, with a berth in the ALCS on the line.
The rest of Wednesday’s playoff action features three teams looking to close out their series. The Milwaukee Brewers, holding a 2-0 series lead, will try to sweep the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. In the American League, the Toronto Blue Jays carry a 2-1 series lead into their game against the New York Yankees. The day concludes as the Los Angeles Dodgers, also up 2-0, aim to eliminate the Philadelphia Phillies.
